Combining OpenMP and MPI

Some jobs will run most efficiently using a combination of OpenMP and MPI.

Poor performance can result if multiple OpenMP threads are allocated to a single CPU core. To make sure that the OpenMP threads run on different cores include

setenv KMP_AFFINITY 'physical,0'

in the PBS submit file.

If running a hybrid job then you may need to use the dplace command to put the OpenMP threads on different cores. See the example job file /usr/local/examples/qsub_script/example-openmp.pbs for how to do this.
