It will obviously be a good idea to talk over a thesis plan with your advisor as early as possible. If you have a plan in place 9-12 months before you intend to submit, everything will go smoothly. The university limits your thesis to 100,000 words, but something in the range 30,000 to 60,000 is more common. 

A thesis template is attached below. It has been used by a number of past graduate student to prepare their thesis and is thought to comply with all university regulations.
